A single standard for chargers has been introduced in Europe
December 28. /MEDIA TALK/. Since December 28, 2024, a directive has been in effect in the European Union obliging manufacturers of all new smartphones and other mobile gadgets to equip their products with a standard USB-C charging port. This is reported by RBC with reference to the document.

The list of devices includes mobile phones, tablets, cameras, audio headphones, radio headsets, game consoles, portable audio speakers, e-books, keyboards, mice and navigators. The unified standard is not yet valid for laptops, for which it will become mandatory from April 28, 2026.

In addition, if the gadget is charged at over 15 watts of power, it must support a single USB PD fast charging protocol. This means that devices of different brands will be able to charge using a single device.

The European Commission submitted a draft law on standardization of ports in early January 2021. Representatives of Apple, which used Lightning ports in its devices at that time, argued that unification could lead to a decrease in the pace of technology development in the field of security and energy-saving solutions. Subsequently, the company equipped new iPhone models with Type-C connectors. The European Union has been striving to establish a single type of charger since 2009.

According to the results of 10 months of 2024, iPhone smartphones entered the top three best-selling online brands, we talked about this earlier.
