About 20% of the electricity in Europe in 2024 was provided by wind energy.
January 10th. /MEDIA TALK/. According to the WindEurope industry association, only 15 gigawatts of new wind energy sources were launched in the European Union in 2024. This indicator is two times less than the required 35 gigawatts to achieve the 2030 climate targets.

Among the factors preventing the development of wind energy at the desired pace are the disregard by most governments of the new EU rules on issuing permits, countries are not electrifying their economies fast enough (only 23% of the EU energy balance is provided by electricity) and the inconsistency of electric grid facilities with wind generation requirements. According to the organization's estimates, 500 gigawatts of potential energy from wind farms is being lost due to lack of grid connectivity.

It is noted that the European Union aims to ensure that wind energy covers 34% of electricity consumption by 2030 and over half by 2050.

We recently talked about the fact that the UK's electric grid often cannot cope with the increased load, which leads to the shutdown of wind farms.
