CNBC: India could be seriously affected by US sanctions against the Russian tanker fleet
January 17th. /MEDIA TALK/. The latest large-scale US sanctions against Russian energy companies and oil tanker operators will complicate India's attempts to continue importing cheap Russian oil and could lead to higher inflation in Asia's third largest economy.

As CNBC notes, citing government data, 88% of the oil consumed by India between April and November 2024 was imported into the country. About 40% of these imports came from Russia.

According to CNBC's Kpler analytical platform, of the 183 tankers recently sanctioned, 75 transported Russian oil to India. Last year alone, about 687 million barrels of crude oil were transported, of which 30% were shipped to India.
