Counterfeiting of banknotes has become less common in Russia
12th of February. /MEDIA TALK/. According to the Central Bank, there was one forgery per 1 million banknotes in circulation in 2024.

A total of 8,240 counterfeit Russian banknotes and coins were identified, of which 64% were 5,000 rubles and 27% were 1,000 rubles. 1,875 counterfeit foreign banknotes were also found, 93% of which were in US dollars.

The decrease was the result of the introduction of new security technologies and increased control over cash turnover. Despite the positive dynamics, experts note the need for further work, as attackers improve their methods.

The prospects are related to the development of digital technologies and non-cash payments, which can further reduce the level of counterfeiting. At the moment, the general trend in Russia is related to the abandonment of cash, so by the end of 11 months of 2024, their number in circulation decreased to 18 trillion rubles, having decreased by almost 500 billion rubles over the year.
