Credit card issuance in November fell to the lowest level since 2022
December 17th. /MEDIA TALK/. In November 2024, banks issued 1.57 million credit cards to Russian citizens, which was the lowest result in almost two years. According to the United Credit Bureau, cited by Kommersant, the number of contracts signed for this financial product fell to the lowest level since May 2022, and the volume of credit card transactions decreased to the lowest values since January 2023.

According to <url>, the number of applications for credit cards in November decreased by more than half compared to January figures. The decrease in demand is due to a decrease in the attractiveness of credit card terms. For example, the interest-free period ranges from 100 to 120 days, whereas a year ago it was possible to get a card with a one-year deferred payment period. Banks have stopped raising and started reducing the limits on previously issued credit cards.

Since the third quarter of 2024, the Central Bank has banned banks from providing loans with credit limits or increasing existing limits if the borrower's debt burden exceeds 80%, which also affected the number of cards issued.

In October, 21.9% fewer credit cards were issued in Russia than at the beginning of the year, we wrote about this earlier.
