Fraudsters stole 4.8 billion rubles from the accounts of Russian citizens in the second quarter
August 20th. /MEDIA TALK/. On Tuesday, August 20, it became known that in April-June 2024, fraudsters stole 4.8 billion rubles from the accounts of residents of Russia. The total number of transactions after which citizens lost money amounted to almost 257 thousand, the Central Bank said.

The amount of stolen funds turned out to be almost 19% higher than the average result of the previous four quarters. At the same time, the number of criminal operations decreased by 14.9%.

In three months, it was possible to repel more than 16 million attempts to steal funds from Russians, the Central Bank added. This is almost 1.5 times more than the average values for the previous period.

Recall that at the end of July, the Central Bank proposed to introduce a cooling-off period for suspicious loans. Within its framework, banks may be given the opportunity to suspend a client's operation for several days to verify data.
