Honda and Nissan said they will continue their strategic partnership with Mitsubishi Motors, focusing on developing technologies for the "age of intelligence and electrified vehicles." As part of the collaboration, the companies will work together to create batteries, unmanned systems, software, and electric vehicles.

Merger negotiations began in December 2024. It was planned that the process would be completed by June 2025, and the combined company would go public in August 2026. However, negotiations have reached an impasse due to disagreements.: Honda insisted on turning Nissan into its subsidiary, rejecting the idea of a merger on equal terms.

Despite the rejection of the merger, the companies intend to strengthen cooperation in order to remain competitive in the context of the global transition to electrification and autonomous technologies.
