India has reduced oil supplies from Russia
5th of March. /MEDIA TALK/. According to S&P Global, the volume of Russian oil imports to India decreased after the introduction of US sanctions. In January, it amounted to 1.67 million barrels per day, and in February it decreased to 1.46 million.

These figures are 6.7% and 18.4% lower than the average monthly figure for 2024, Kommersant notes. Despite this, Russia continued to be India's main oil supplier in January, although the share of other countries also increased. So, against the background of sanctions against the Russian oil sector, India increased oil imports from the United States, in January the volume reached 232.3 thousand barrels per day, which is 53% more than the average in 2024.

Oil imports to India from all supplier countries increased to 4.9 million barrels per day in January 2025, the highest since June 2024.

In January, immediately after the introduction of US sanctions against Russian energy companies and the tanker fleet, experts predicted future difficulties with the supply of inexpensive Russian oil to India, and rising inflation in the country. According to Trading Economics, by the end of January 2025, the annual inflation rate in the country was 4.31%, down from 5.22% in December.
