The ban on the transportation of petroleum products by road began to take effect even earlier, from September 29, 2024, and will also last until March 29, 2025. The restrictions do not apply to planned exports, as well as emergencies such as humanitarian aid to other countries.

Earlier, state regulation of fuel prices was abolished in the republic, as there was a price gap with neighboring countries. For example, the difference in cost between the brands of AI-92 gasoline varies from 40% to 138%, for diesel fuel, the figure ranges from 20% to 79%. This situation hindered the development of the industry and provoked the illegal export of fuel from the country.
At a press conference in the Government of Kazakhstan on January 28, Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev announced that as a result of the abolition of control over the retail cost of fuel, prices at gas stations are expected to rise in February. As the authorities expect, there should be no sharp increase in tariffs, and the overall level should rise to the values on the Russian market. As of January 29, prices at Russian stations are about one and a half times higher than in Kazakhstan.
