Norway to build the longest and deepest tunnel in the world
December 13th. /MEDIA TALK/. In Norway, the construction of the Boknafjord underwater tunnel with a length of 26.5 kilometers has begun. It will be laid at a depth of several hundred meters and will connect the Randaberg and Bukne districts, becoming an alternative to ferry transport.

The construction of the tunnel will reduce the duration of the route along the coastal highway E39 between the cities of Kristiansand and Trondheim by 11 hours. At the moment, it takes drivers 21 hours to travel along this route. A wide underpass dug through solid rock reduces travel time to 35 minutes. The price of the trip will be approximately 38 dollars. The amount of construction costs will exceed 2 billion US dollars.

Boknafjord is part of a large-scale reconstruction program for the E39 highway, which costs $45.5 billion. Her plan includes the construction of several floating underground tunnels, each of which will contain two concrete pipes - one for movement in each direction. The pipes are supposed to be fixed on floating supports placed at a depth of 20 to 30 meters.

Recall that in the first four months of 2024, Norway became the leader in purchases of Russian energy resources, accounting for 56% of European purchases of pipeline hydrocarbons.
