Russia plans to reduce seed imports to 25%
15th of November. /MEDIA TALK/. The Ministry of Agriculture will reduce the supply of imported seeds as they are replaced by its own production. This was reported today by Kommersant with reference to the press service of the Ministry. The Izvestia newspaper also today, citing sources in the Ministry of Agriculture, reported plans to completely stop importing sunflower seeds and corn from unfriendly countries.

The indicator of self-sufficiency in seeds, according to the doctrine of food security, should be 75%, the Ministry of Agriculture noted. In order to achieve this indicator, a lot of work is being done in Russia to develop breeding, the market is actively growing, the Ministry added. There was also a decrease in dependence on such products from unfriendly countries as sunflower seeds, soybeans, rapeseed, potatoes, corn and sugar beet.

Recall that by the end of 2024, the Government has introduced quotas for the import of certain types of seeds - corn, sunflower, potatoes, wheat, rye, barley, soybeans and sugar beet. We wrote about this in January.
