Russian cinema has begun to pay off more often
February 6th. /MEDIA TALK/. One of the five Russian films that received state funding in 2024 was able to return costs or earn money at the box office.

If in 2022 only one out of twenty-six such films returned production costs, then in 2024 five out of twenty-five films provided their authors with profit. Such data is provided by RBC, having studied the reports of the Cinema Foundation.

A movie that earned twice the budget for its creation can be considered commercially successful. In 2024, the second episode of "The Serf" became the picture that aroused the greatest interest among the viewer. The film collected 3.8 billion rubles, while the cost of its production amounted to 768 million rubles. "Bremen Town Musicians", the third part of "Ice", "Hands up!" and "Luntik. Returning home."

In 2024, some projects with serious budgets failed to cover the costs of their production. So, "Air" directed by Alexei German Jr., collected only 502 million rubles at the box office, with production costs of 608.8 million rubles, "Dugout" with financing of 426 million rubles - 108 million rubles.

The press service of the Ministry of Culture noted that it is incorrect to assess the payback of films based only on fee figures, and stressed that they support not commercial, but spectator cinema.

Earlier, we wrote that by the end of 2024, Russian film screenings abroad collected 16.6 million US dollars, which is $ 1 million less than the results of 2023.
