Russian investments in U.S. government bonds increased by $1 million in September
November 19. /MEDIA TALK/. The US Treasury Department has published the latest data on portfolio assets of American and foreign securities. According to the department's statistics, the volume of Russian investments in U.S. securities increased by $1 million to $25 million in September. In July and August, it was $24 million per month. Starting in December 2022, Russian investments in American assets began to decline sharply and in 2023-2024 averaged about $50 million per month. Between 2020 and 2023, they also decreased from $10 billion in January 2020 to $2 billion in November 2022.

Russia began reducing investments in American government bonds in the spring of 2018, amid tougher sanctions from the United States. In April 2018, the country sold a package of US Treasury securities worth $47.5 billion, and the portfolio was halved.

The largest holders of American government securities are now Japan with investments of about $1.12 trillion, China with $772 billion and the United Kingdom with an indicator of $764.7 billion.
