The amount of cash in circulation decreased to 18 trillion rubles by the end of 2024
January 10th. /MEDIA TALK/. As a result of the analysis of data for 11 months of 2024, it was revealed that the increase in the amount of cash in Russia has become minimal over the past decade. According to RBC calculations based on data from the Central Bank as of December 1, the amount of cash in circulation amounted to 17.85 trillion, a decrease of 474.7 billion rubles. In December, the volume of cash, however, increased by 591.6 billion rubles, due to seasonal growth. Thus, by the end of the year, the figure may reach 18.44 trillion rubles, having increased by only 0.6% over the year, that is, 116.9 billion rubles.

Experts attribute the moderate figures to record high interest rates on savings, which is why the population and businesses have begun to place their funds more actively in bank accounts. According to the Central Bank, about 36.5 trillion rubles were placed on term deposits in 9 months of 2024. For comparison, in 2023, the volume of money supply within the country increased by 1.97 trillion rubles, and in 2022 there was an increase of 2.28 trillion rubles.
