As the regulator emphasized, the digital ruble is introduced in addition to cash and non-cash payments, therefore, the choice whether to use such a means of payment remains at the discretion of the user. The Central Bank assured that no applications for the termination of the use of electronic rubles do not need to be submitted.
The widespread introduction of the digital ruble is scheduled for mid-2025. Financial institutions are currently testing operations using digital wallets. In the future, it will be possible to open an account in digital rubles in the bank's mobile application connected to the digital ruble platform.
