
The decision was announced by the head of the regulator, Elvira Nabiullina, speaking at the annual meeting with representatives of the banking sector. The postponement of the introduction of the new digital national currency is due to the need for additional discussion and thorough preparation before the implementation of the project.

She added that the integration of financial institutions and trade organizations into the digital ruble system will be carried out gradually. First, the project will be expanded at the expense of systemically important banks, then other financial institutions will be involved. The same strategy will be implemented in relation to businesses, starting with large corporations, then moving on to companies in medium and small segments.
The head of the Central Bank promised to announce the exact timing of the widespread launch of the digital currency later.
