The EU is discussing the issue of increasing supplies of liquefied natural gas from the United States after Donald Trump comes to power.
January 20th. /MEDIA TALK/. Despite the fact that Brussels is demonstrating its willingness to enter into negotiations on increasing the supply of American oil and gas, energy companies are purchasing unprecedented amounts of more affordable liquefied natural gas from Russia, the Financial Times notes.

The European Union will not be able to increase the purchase of energy resources from the United States in the foreseeable future, industry experts interviewed by the publication believe, despite Trump's threats to impose trade duties on products from the European Union if the latter does not increase the purchase of American liquefied natural gas. He made such a statement shortly after his election as President of the United States.

According to the Kpler portal, during the first week and a half of January 2025, 27 European countries purchased 837.3 thousand tons of liquefied natural gas from Russia. In 2024, 17 million tons were delivered to Europe. Trump promised to lift the moratorium on expanding exports of liquefied natural gas, established by the previous administration, among the first steps after taking office. The American side is confident that they have enough resources to take a share of Russian LNG in the European market, FT notes.
