The European Union wants to limit the work of Asian marketplaces
December 4th. /MEDIA TALK/. The European Union is concerned about the work of Asian marketplaces and is preparing measures to regulate them. The Financial Times writes about this today. As the publication notes, the flow of goods ordered through such platforms is growing every year. By the end of 2024, it is expected that about 4 billion parcels will be sent. However, they are not subject to customs regulations, as most shipments are cheaper than 150 euros.

Due to the lack of inspections, imports of dangerous and non-certified products are increasing. The activities of such platforms as Chinese Temu and Shein are regulated by international law, which also complicates control over their activities. According to FT sources, the growing popularity of marketplaces creates competition for European companies that have to bear high production costs.

The European Commission has already proposed to abolish the price threshold of 150 euros for such goods. However, this will create an additional burden on the customs service. The number of low-quality and counterfeit goods such as cosmetics, toys, electrical appliances and clothing imported into the European Union and purchased on Asian online platforms has doubled this year compared to 2023.

Recently, we told you that Russian sellers complained to the FAS about the marketing policy of marketplaces.
