The government will limit the possibility of online calls in order to combat fraud

December 28. /MEDIA TALK/. The Government of the Russian Federation has approved a decree that will limit the possibility of making calls via the Internet to mobile and landline phones. The measure was introduced to counteract telephone fraud, since the use of Internet telephony allows you to substitute numbers and designate incoming calls as allegedly coming from official structures and companies.

The decision will enter into force on September 1, 2025. However, the ban will not affect audio calls within messengers. The Ministry of Digital Development clarified that the provision of services via Internet telephony is not prohibited, but this requires obtaining a license to carry out this activity. Most bona fide operators already have it, the Ministry of Finance explained, and nothing will change for them. Until now, the legislation has not precisely defined the criteria for obtaining such a license, and this has been used by intruders.
