The import of tobacco products has increased sharply in Russia

The organization added that the result of the first quarter also exceeded similar figures in 2023 - by 35.1%, to 215.5 million packages. Cigarettes accounted for the bulk of imports.

The publication added that the CRPT did not specify the countries from which tobacco products were imported. A media source said that the Russian Federation mainly buys cigarettes in Belarus and the UAE. In these countries, the cost of production is lower due to the difference in taxes.

Recall that last week it was reported that in 2024, residents of Russia began to spend more money on cigarettes. The growth rate reached 19%, or 659 billion rubles in six months.
