The issue of credit cards in January 2025 was the lowest in three years.

According to the United Credit Bureau, cited by Kommersant, this is almost half as much as in January 2024, and the lowest figure since April 2022.

The total amount of approved limits also decreased by 41%, to 135 billion rubles, which was the lowest value in the last three years.

Experts attribute the fall to the tightening of the Central Bank's monetary policy and the desire of banks to balance their loan portfolios.

It is assumed that the number of credit cards issued will decrease in the future. A change in trend is possible only after a reduction in the Central Bank's base interest rate, experts say.
