Earlier, Fico appealed to European leaders to find a way to continue transporting Russian natural gas, RBC reports. Slovakia is one of the largest consumers of Russian gas, which it receives through the territory of Ukraine. The existing agreement on the transfer of fuel to Europe via Ukraine ends at the end of this year. The Ukrainian Government has repeatedly announced its decision not to continue the agreement. The day before, during a large press conference, this information was confirmed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On December 19, Ukraine announced the development of an Eastern European gas hub jointly with Poland, capable, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, of providing energy resources to European consumers and serving as an alternative to transporting natural gas from Russia.
