The draft law provides guarantees for the protection of electronic wallets, similar to those applied to money stored in deposit accounts in banks.
The amount of up to 1.4 million rubles will be insured if the e-wallet has a username (not anonymous) and has passed the full or simplified identity verification procedure. In the case of an abbreviated check, the first name, last name and number of the identification document are indicated, while the full check takes place at the office to verify personal data.
The initiative was first announced in February 2024 after the revocation of a license from a Qiwi bank specializing in transactions through such wallets.
