Tourist tax instead of resort fee
November 8. /MEDIA TALK/. A tourist tax will be levied in the capital of the Altai Territory from the New Year. This was announced today by deputies of the Barnaul City Duma during the discussion of the city budget.

Recall that the law on the introduction of a tourist tax was signed by the President this summer. The decision on its introduction, as well as the size, is made at the regional level. Since 2018, the measure has been in effect in the form of a resort fee in the Altai, Krasnodar and Stavropol territories. Later, St. Petersburg, Sevastopol and Crimea joined the experiment.

According to the law, the minimum tax amount will be 100 rubles per day, and the rate will increase from 1% in 2025 to 5% by 2029. Now tourists are no longer paying the fee, but hotels or landlords - individuals - are becoming.

The law provides an opportunity for the regions to introduce benefits. As explained by the chairman of the Barnaul City Duma Galina Buevich (her words are quoted on the official website of the institution):
"We are studying the experience of other regions with benefits already introduced for the population, we are in touch with Barnaul hoteliers and plan to create a working group to monitor the situation and develop proposals to improve the adopted legal act."

Recall that the Altai Territory is now one of the most popular tourist destinations. Over 1 million tourists visited it last summer.

We recently reported that a tourist tax will also be levied in Novosibirsk.
