Tulips in Russia are almost equal in price to roses
February 13th. /MEDIA TALK/. According to the Flowwow marketplace, the average cost of a tulip was 231.3 rubles, while a rose cost 248.6 rubles.

The difference decreased to 7.4%, although a year earlier roses were almost 39% more expensive than tulips. Such data is provided by RBC.

According to market participants, the main factors contributing to the rise in the price of tulips include an increase in customs duties on flowers from unfriendly countries and a poor harvest of bulbs in the Netherlands, which negatively affected the supply of premium varieties such as peony tulips. The price increase was also influenced by inflation and increased logistics costs.

At the same time, roses have become 2.7% cheaper compared to February 2024. Despite the price increase, 59% of Russians intend to continue buying bouquets, although they will reduce the number of flowers, according to a January Flowwow survey.

A few years ago, according to Rosselkhoznadzor statistics, imported flowers, including tulips, dominated the Russian market, accounting for 80% of all volumes. Since July 2024, Russia has introduced a 20% duty on imported flowers, which will be in effect at least until the end of 2025. Last fall, the Ministry of Agriculture discussed the possibility of raising it.

At the same time, import substitution is actively developing in Russia: several hundred tulip producers are currently operating in the country, which provide 50% of domestic demand.

Experts predict that by March 8, prices for tulips may rise by 20-30% due to increased demand.
