The agreement on the transportation of Russian natural gas through Ukrainian territory was signed at the end of 2019 for five years with the possibility of extension for another ten-year period. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal recently confirmed that Ukraine will not extend the transit agreement at the end of 2024. Unlike Kiev, Moscow expressed its readiness to continue transportation through the territory of Ukraine. As Vladimir Putin previously reported, Russia can export gas to Europe in other ways, for example through the Turkish Stream gas pipeline.
We have already told you that the Moldovan Government has imposed a state of emergency in the energy sector since December 16 due to possible interruptions in Russian gas supplies due to the expiration of the transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
