VTB's plans to increase its stake became known in July 2024. In August, VTB CEO Andrey Kostin announced that they were not going to keep the Post-Bank brand, but the branches themselves would continue to function. The merger will enable VTB to strengthen its influence in the retail banking market, especially in regions where Pochta Bank has a wide network of 25,000 service centers and a customer base of 8.6 million people. VTB intends to introduce new banking services, optimize operations and expand digital services.

We talked about the preparations for the deal between VTB and Russian Post at the end of September.
