A non-invasive body composition sensor was presented at the II International Congress "Obesity and Metabolic Disorders: Conscious Reboot". This is a joint development of the NMIC of Endocrinology and the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University. Young scientists have been working on the creation of an innovative device for several months in 2024. The device can accurately measure the level of hydration, fat content and fat-free body weight. As Evgeny Shirshin, one of the developers, head of the laboratory of biophotonics at the NMIC of Endocrinology, told our agency, the Russian development will differ from the imported analog InBody (a medical device for analyzing body composition, which was originally used in intensive care to determine the dosage of medicines, and then switched to fitness – approx.ed) Higher accuracy and lower price.
"The device that we have created implies a direct measurement of the molecular composition from optical spectra, and not an indirect analysis of the transmission of current through the human body. It will also be a personal device the size of a matchbox, with data visualization on a smartphone. It will be possible to carry it with you," said Yevgeny Shirshin.

It should be added that the II International Congress "Obesity and Metabolic Disorders: a conscious reboot" was held at the site of the NMIC of Endocrinology. The session was moderated by Natalia Mokrysheva, Director of the Center, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The event was attended by specialists from various fields of diagnosis and treatment of obesity from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the UAE and China. The congress was also attended by Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko and Deputy Chairman of the Government Tatyana Golikova.
