Spice producers have warned Russian chains about price increases

The price of spices is also affected by an increase in the burden on loans, rising transportation costs, increased tariffs of natural monopolies and the cost of paying employees. According to Kotani, the cost of black pepper doubled in 2024 due to a decrease in the volume of harvested crops in Vietnam and Brazil. In addition, in Guatemala, sweet pepper plantations were affected by hurricanes, which led to its cost reaching record levels. As a result of heavy rainfall in India, turmeric production decreased by about a third. In Egypt, high temperatures have led to an increase in prices for marjoram and basil, while in Turkey, prices for bay leaves and oregano have increased.
