The Consumer Union estimated the amount of dangerous substances contained in cosmetics on the shelves of Russian stores

The Consumer Union conducted monitoring of cosmetic products on the shelves of Russian stores. The organization found out that 65% of the copies contain dangerous substances, and 76% of the goods have no data on contraindications to use. This applies to cosmetics from the mass segment.

The list of dangerous substances that are prohibited for use in perfumes and cosmetics contains almost 1,700 items. Their harm has been proven, including in the courts. At the same time, there are only 332 permitted substances. The sum of them in the mixture cannot be higher than the maximum concentration allowed in the finished product.

The most common violation found in the study was the lack of data on the composition in Russian. In 90% of cases, this information is written in Latin letters, and the names of chemicals are indicated in the format of abbreviations. Also, every fifth product is sold with or without an expired expiration date, the portal "Prime" reports.
