The facility will consist of two power units. The first one is planned to be commissioned in 2041, and the second one in 2042. The capacity of the new nuclear power plant will be 1,255 MW. The order on the construction of the energy facility was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

The Beloyarsk NPP has been operating in the Sverdlovsk region near the city of Zarechny since 1964. In 2024, Rospotrebnadzor issued a permit for the construction of a new unit with a fast neutron reactor. Work will begin in 2027, RBC reports. There are currently 4 power units operating at the BAES.
