February 7. /MEDIA TALK/. On February 7, 2025, Sukhum Airport in the Republic of Abkhazia received a plane from Moscow with more than a 30-year break.

This is reported by TASS. The flight was operated by YUVT Aero Airlines from Moscow's Vnukovo Airport and ended with a landing in Sukhum. There were 21 people on board, including the Acting President of the Republic, Badra Gumba, and students from Abkhazia.

The test flight was required to assess the airport's readiness to service passenger airliners.

According to the Russian Ministry of Transport, regular flights between Moscow and Sukhum are expected to begin in May 2025. Potentially, two more airlines are considering this direction for organizing flights.

The airport terminal in the capital of Abkhazia was damaged in 1993 during the Abkhaz-Georgian conflict. Currently, the final stage of its restoration is underway, carried out by Russian specialists.

The day before, we wrote that the Russian Ministry of Finance had agreed on financial assistance to Abkhazia for the socio-economic development of the republic.
