Inflation expectations of Russians decreased for the first time in six months

According to the results of a survey conducted by the inFOM research company commissioned by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, in February 2025, the price expectations of Russians decreased. They amounted to 13.7%, whereas in January this figure was at the level of 14%.

In January, inflation expectations reached an annual maximum, and before that, higher values were recorded only in December 2023, when the indicator was 14.2%. Among respondents without savings, expectations dropped to 15.2% from 15.4% (in December they were 14.9%). For those with savings, the decrease turned out to be more significant — to 11.3% from 12.6% (in December — 12.7%).

However, the annual inflation observed by Russians, on the contrary, increased from 16.4% to 16.5% (in December — 15.9%). Those who have no savings have the highest expectations — 18.4% (previously - 17.5%). Among those who have savings, this indicator is lower — 13.6% (in January — 15.4%).

Inflation expectations of the population play an important role in economic policy and are taken into account by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation when changing the key rate.
