The European Union is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia
December 23rd. /MEDIA TALK/. The European Union will adopt the 16th package of restrictive measures against Russia on February 24, 2025, to mark the three-year anniversary of the start of a special operation on the territory of Ukraine, the German newspaper Die Welt reports, citing its sources in the diplomatic environment.

The new package of sanctions will include measures against areas of the Russian economy "that were previously either not affected at all or were only partially affected." In addition, restrictive measures will be established against individuals and organizations that the European Union considers guilty of "spreading propaganda and actions directed against the territorial integrity of Ukraine."

It is also planned to impose restrictions on visits to European Union countries for those citizens whom the EU accuses of "espionage in the interests of Russia and participation in disinformation campaigns." The measures involve blocking their funds. At the same time, Brussels believes that identifying the connection of specific individuals with Russia's "hybrid attacks" will be a difficult task. The final decision on the introduction of new sanctions has not yet been approved, the newspaper notes.

As part of the 15th package of sanctions against Russia, announced in mid-December, the European Union imposed restrictive measures against 54 individuals and 30 companies.
