The decrease in value is due to both the decline in the dollar exchange rate on the European stock exchange and the subsequent strengthening of the Russian currency. The decrease in oil prices is observed against the background of a reduction in political threats in the Middle East and Europe, as well as the beginning of negotiations between the Russian Federation and the United States of America.

Experts note that such a sharp decline may entail certain threats to the budget of the state, whose revenues largely depend on global oil prices.

Earlier, we reported that as of January 1, 2025, the size of the National Welfare Fund amounted to 11.88 trillion rubles, or 6.2% of GDP. According to the budget rule, the fund is replenished with additional oil and gas revenues, a prerequisite for which are high energy prices.
