A tourist tax may be introduced in Yekaterinburg

Plans to introduce a tourist tax were discussed at the Yekaterinburg City Hall. It can begin to be charged from January 1, 2025.

According to the mayor of the capital of the Urals, Alexei Orlov, a draft regulation on the introduction of a tourist fee will be prepared and sent to the city Duma of Yekaterinburg this month. The final decision will be made by the people's deputies in November.

The tourist tax is a mandatory payment from the proceeds of the hotel business. Today, it has already been introduced in 40 municipalities of Russia.

The money raised from the additional fee will be used to develop urban infrastructure, organize events, attract tourists, and so on. Experts estimate the amount of possible tax revenues in the tens of millions of rubles, the press service of the Yekaterinburg Administration reports.
